US Snowboarding National Champion Men’s Alpine 2004

I claimed the 2004 US Snowboarding National Championship title today after yesterday’s PGS win and a fourth place finish in today’s slalom event. It was a combined Alpine National Crown. Last race of the season, what a way to finish. Stacia Hookem claimed the Women’s crown. It was a hard day for me today. My back was so seized after yesterday’s PGS I couldn’t get out of bed this morning. I had to get help buckling my boots and closing my binding bail in the start gate. At one point I thought I was going to have to call it off. I was happy to be able to get it done under these circumstances. Missy and my family were on hand to celebrate the National Championship win. Mom said, ‘It was an epic finish to the season.’ She and Dad were super pumped and thrilled to be there for the win. Missy said, ‘I’m tired of being a sherpa, let’s go surfing.’I’m headed home to Aspen this afternoon to get ready for my snowboard camp next weekend and do some relaxing and freeriding until the lifts shut down! Thanks for all your support!
