Transplant Games 2010

The Transplant Games were awesome. It was my fifth Transplant Games. I was proud to be a part of the activities again – I wouldn’t miss it. I was honored to help light the torch at the Opening Ceremonies Saturday night in Madison to kick-off the Games. The parade of athletes and donor families was powerful – it always gets me. To think that half of the stadium was there because of the miracle of donation and transplantation is an amazing thing. I helped out at our Chris Klug Foundation booth on Friday at the Games Expo to share the donation message. Thanks to Donor Dudes and Dudettes Michael, Isabelle, Jonathan, Michael Wells, Thomas, and Mary for their support. It was a great success. The traffic at the booth was tremendous. Saturday morning I ran the 5K run for organ donation through Madison. I took me just over twenty-one minutes, three minutes faster than the Donor Dash a few weeks ago in Denver. Sea level sure is nice. I enjoyed talking to fellow transplant patients and donor families all day Saturday at the Astellas booth.
It was a fun few week in Wisconsin. Throwing out the opening pitch at the Brewer’s game to celebrate ten years as a transplant recipient was a highlight. I was stoked to redeem myself after bouncing it in 2002 at Tiger’s stadium. Touring the Trek factory on Thursday and riding the mountain bike trails Friday with my friend Hans and the Trek crew was a cool experience. Waterskiing and wakeboarding with my buddy Michael and friends on Lake Wisconsin was beautiful. It was a fun trip. I loved seeing so many of my friends in the transplant community again, and meeting new ones. The athletic events are a lot of fun, but It’s truly about celebrating second chances together and showing what’s possible post-transplant. Congrats to everyone that participated. Thanks to NKF and Madison for hosting a great Games. See you at the next Games. Enjoy the photos!
