Spain, X Games and Lots of Powder

I’m in Park City, Utah this week training, and racing NorAm’s. Yesterday was a fun day of training on CB’s run, one of my favorites. Lots of good memories from racing here in 2002. It dumped here last night, so I rode pow all day today. It was waist deep in the trees. I was hoping to get some good training here this week, but it’s looking more like a freeride camp with all the fresh snow. I race a two run NorAm giant slalom on Wednesday and a parallel slalom on Thursday. Heading back home Friday for a few days before the next World Cup in Korea Feb. 17th.
I didn’t have my best performance racing in early January in Europe. After a busy holiday in Aspen filled with powder riding every day I traveled to Europe Jan. 4th, and arrived sick. I was in bed for three days before trying to race a World Cup Slalom in Bad Gastein, Austria. Needless to say it wasn’t my fastest racing. From there we traveled to La Molina, Spain. I had a chance to check out Barcelona with my teammates for a day. I loved visiting la Sagrada and touring Gaudi’s famous architecture. I got off to a fast start in the La Molina World Cup PGS, but had some problems on the second run and finished twentieth, not what I was hoping for. My teammate Tyler Jewell rode fast, claiming third in the PGS. I returned home to Aspen and spent the past week and a half assisting with hosting live television for X Games 12 for Plum Television and announcing the “King of Quarters” competition. It was a lot of fun and a great opportunity for me to gain more broadcast experience for down the road, after 2010. I really enjoyed hosting tv and announcing events, but it was a lot of work. Each morning I awoke at five a.m. to study for the day’s show. I haven’t done that much homework since high school. I felt like I was ready for X Games Jeopardy.
We’ve had so much snow in Aspen this winter. It’s dumping more tonight. It has been non-stop this season. I enjoyed some fun days riding pow the past weeks. With all the snow it hasn’t been easy to ride a race board at Aspen/Snowmass this winter. I got out a few days last week and made some positive adjustments to my equipment that I’m confident will work well. I’m excited for some fun racing later this week and in Asia in the weeks ahead. Enjoy the photos below from my adventures the past month. I’ll keep you posted! Thanks for checking in.
