Shasta Summit, RAAM 5 Point

Just got back from climbing and riding Mt. Shasta in Northern Cal, 14,179 ft. It was a long day, 7,300 vertical foot climb, but I got to enjoy some fun turns on the way down. Surprisingly there wasn’t much snow on Shasta, even though they received tons this winter. High winds and cold conditions scoured the mountain. It was late summer conditions on the mountain. The wind was ripping around thirty miles an hour off and on most of the way up, but mellowed on the summit. What a view from the top. My teammate Zac Kay who lives in Mt. Shasta City lead Jon Gibans, Joel Lee and myself up the mountain. Growing up in Central Oregon I’ve driven by Shasta many times and viewed it from my wakeboard on Shasta Lake and Lake Trinity. I always wanted to climb and ride it and finally got the chance. Thanks to my friends for joining me and making it a success. After climbing Shasta we headed over to the Redwoods State Park to check out the trees and then spent a day in San Francisco. It was so warm we went swimming in the ocean. The cold water felt good after a full day of climbing.
Last weekend I participated in the first 5 Point Film Festival in Carbondale, CO. It was an awesome event. I spoke on a panel discussing “Living through Adversity” with Aron Ralston, Eric Weihenmayer, Malcom Daly, and Britt Caillouette. I was proud to be a part of the event and share my experiences.
Two weeks ago I rode with my friend Kevin Monroe and A Ride Across America Team on motorcycles and ATV’s from Las Cruces, New Mexico to Phoenix, Arizona to promote organ and tissue donation. I was loving the 95 degree temps after a cold spring in Aspen. It has been winter-like here in Aspen the past weeks. I’ve been taking a real estate course locally, so it has helped me stay focused. I’m looking forward to climbing and riding the next couple weeks. The backcountry conditions are epic. I’ll head over to A Basin again next week to test some new gear. Then I’m going surfing. I’m in the process of redesigning my website with my friend Jerry Willis. We’ll be giving the site a fresh new look and layout. I can’t wait to launch it. Stay tuned for the debut with new videos, photos and info in mid June. Enjoy your spring! Thanks for stopping by. Check out the photos from the road.
