Rainy World Champs Over – Movin’ On!

It was a disappointing World Championships for me in Whistler. I was feeling fast and confident and ready for a great race, but it wasn’t my day. I got off to a good top five start on my first PGS qualification run and then rebounded from a three-sixty crash on my second run to qualify fifteenth. It was an amazing comeback and I was happy just to get in there after a major mistake. I knew as long as I was in the top sixteen K.O. final I could win. It didn’t matter where I qualified. I’ve won and lost from first and last in the final. My first round in the finals against Austrian Andreas Prommegger was a good one. He won the first run and I bounced back strong on the second making up almost a half second, but lost by five hundredths of a second failing to advance to the quarterfinals and ending my day in fifteenth. It wasn’t the day I was hoping for. I was looking forward to a long day of racing, hopefully ending on the podium, but it was over after the first elimination round. What a bummer. I haven’t had the best of luck at World Championships. I trained hard and felt that I was well prepared for this race, but sometimes it doesn’t happen and you have to get over it. I gave it my best and that’s all one can ask in my mind. I look back and ask myself did I do everything in my power to give myself the best chance to win today and I believe that I did, it just wasn’t my day? I’ll bounce back strong and win the next one.The weather was miserable in Whistler for the race. It poured rain for five days straight. I’ve never in my life seen it rain at a ski resort like that in January. It looked more like a Costa Rican surf trip in May. It was a disaster for the event; unfortunate that it happened during our World Champs, but not much you can do when Mother Nature doesn’t cooperate? Everyone sucked it up and pulled off the event, much to our disappointment. All you could really do is laugh. I think it says a lot about the character of our sport and riders. In most other sports I believe the athletes would have been on the plane home. There’s not much snow left after the almost week long downpour. It wouldn’t surprise me if Whistler/Blackcomb had to close in the days ahead? They’re expecting another 20-30 cm’s of rain this weekend! Poor pipers! It was a good event for my teammates. Adam Smith finished fourth in the PGS and Rosey Fletcher ended up fourth in the slalom, both just missing the podium. Jacey Jay Anderson had a perfect couple of days of racing, winning both comps. I’m headed to Mt. Snow, Vermont today for the 3rd King of the Mtn. of the season there on Sunday. I heard it was close to zero degrees in Vermont today? I’m just happy to get out of the rain. Have a great weekend. Talk to you after Sunday’s race. Check out www.jeepskiing.comfor updates and info on the Mt. Snow race! Thanks for your support! Best wishes.CKWet Whistler Worlds with Missy
