9th Annual One From the Heart Charity Uphill Race

I got out of bed way too early this morning to compete in an uphill snowshoe race benefiting Challenge Aspen. It was for a great cause, but it destroyed me! I was joined by my friends, who I signed up to share in the pain. I had a wager going with my buddy Jon Gibans, who would get to the top first. He smoked me by a minute ten. It took me thirty-nine minutes to reach the top of Buttermilk Mtn, an 1,800 foot vertical gain. My pal Bob Wade helped pace me to the top, but when it came to jogging the flats to catch Jon, I just couldn’t do it. It was frustrating seeing him pull away, my legs not able to respond. I’m better suited to going fast for forty-five seconds, not forty-five minutes. After talking so much smack all week, I got humbled. I’m going to make Jon strap seventy-five lbs. on his back and then race me! The Americas Uphill Race on Aspen Mtn. is March 19th. I’m going to have to train a little harder to pay Jon back!My collarbone is healing perfectly. I’m planning to be back on-snow March 14th. I’ll be freedoggin’, testing gear and training all spring. Come join me for some turns. The 5th Annual Burton-Klug Camp kicks off April 1-3, 2005. It’s a great way to prepare for USASA Natioinals or just improve your overall riding. Hope you’ll make it! I’m heading to Copper this weekend for Gravity Games to represent Saturn’s National Donor Day . See ya there! Enjoy!CKPryamid Peak from the Cliffhouse atop Buttermilk Mtn.
